OVERVIEW OF THE SEASON
The Oxfordshire league close out a successful 2003.
Glorious weather all season left us with no rain-offs and the closest league title race to date- you can't ask for much more than that.
This season the usual battle at the top between the Harriers and the Devils was made more interesting by the addition of an ever strengthening Angels team. In fact the battle went right down to the wire. With two weeks left, any of the top three could have taken it. But it was the Harriers (front runners all season), who held off challenges from both rivals to take the League title, although it needed a 32-31 victory over the Devils in the final week of the season to avoid a play-off.
Further down the table, the rejuvenated Greensox and the new Oddsox launched their campaigns for mid table dominance against the long standing Beavers. By the end of the season, the Greensox pulled through to stand level with the Beavers in 4th=, whilst the Oddsox can reflect on some very close scorelines that could have easily gone their way. The Angels2 battled hard all season, but couldn't lift themselves off the bottom.
SEASON HIGHPOINTS
Well, we had more teams, great weather, an exciting finish to the season and a higher standard of play all round. We also had a considerably larger representation at tournaments around the country, lead by the Angels. It was all closed out with a great end of season dinner and awards night.
SEASON LOWPOINTS
Borrowing players, automatic outs (for teams with less than 10 on the night) and stats. have all been major headaches this season (which will be fixed in time for 2004). Another major concern is that the league has virtually no committee left going into 2004.
We said goodbye to a number of top players- best of luck wherever you've moved to!
